No Money Kids - Hear the Silence
Silence is golden
Lenny Kravitz had better watch out. The incisive strums of electric guitar, between rhythm guitar and solo guitar, the voice placing itself like an instrument without articulating much (American style), the delightedly vintage sound processing - but so rock - all of this is brilliantly rendered and brightened up by our nos 2 Kids. Just look at "Loaded Gun" as proof.
So they do it again. They don't redo the same album as the first one I Don't Trust You, but it's the little brother, the logical follow-up. And still very addictive.
Their recipe? Take a good basis of White Stripes et Black Keys, from which you'll make the finest greys. Add for colour a zest of Status Quo's shuffle ("Black Hole") and a pinch of Rolling Stones (I thought I heard some "Sympathy for the Devil" several times). Pour into "The Hangman" the slide guitar I enjoyed on "Man". By the way, use the word 'man' lavishly, since you also had "Old Man" before (their hit single)... and now "Man Down"! Simmer it all. Sprinkle a few sugary ballads, like "Take Me to Your Home". Serve piping hot, together with a harsh old blues.
When you ask Felix, the French singer, why he chose the English language, he answers it's like asking a drawer why he uses charcoal: it's a technique like another. A technique which suits him well. Just like his guitar playing, that he masters perfectly. And since JM, the bass player and loop creator, also takes more and more backing vocals up (in tampered voices), they have a very broad-spectrum coverage in their style, just the two of them.
I tell you, with the assets they have, Lenny Kravitz had better watch out.

Too short. The little brother I said? Really little then. 31 minutes. Bad point. An album of only half an hour, can it still be called an album? It misses a longer song, if only one. Closing the album, but judiciously opening their concerts, "Shot the Master" could have been this one, with its "Hells Bells" side.
Alright, the Kids are permanently on the roads, for our greatest pleasure, for all those who discover them. In concert the songs are generously extended and easily pass the 5 minutes each (I guess, I didn't time them).
But maybe could they take a break to devote themselves to writing and recording a good big album. Or else release a live album altogether, since stage (and bars) seem to be their favourite playground? -
